Phillip Thompson, O.D.

Dr. Phillip Thompson attended Virginia Tech and Penn State University and graduated with his Doctorate of Optometry from The Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry. His specialty is Family Practice. He belongs to the Kansas Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. He has been in practice for four years.

Dr. Thompson grew up on a small farm in the small town of Smithfield, located in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. He grew up playing ice hockey and enjoyed skiing/snowboarding, being outdoors and spending a lot of time with his family which included his parents, an older sister and younger brother.

He says what made him specialize in his field was, “Growing up, my optometrist and my mom always mentioned that they could see me as an eye doctor, so after a few years of majoring in engineering in undergrad and discovering that it wasn’t the right fit, I decided to switch paths and try to become an optometrist.”

Outside of work, Dr. Thompson enjoys hunting, fishing and ice hockey, and says triathlon is his biggest hobby. “I am part of Moxie Multisport which is a triathlon team based out of Arizona. I have completed multiple half ironman distance triathlons and plan on doing a full Ironman in the future,” he says.

Jeanna Thompson, O.D.

Dr. Jeanna Thompson graduated from The University of Kansas in the fall of 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology with a concentration in Biology. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from The Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry in June 2014.

Dr. Thompson received an award for “Excellence in Research” from IAUPR School of Optometry and a grant to attend The American Academy of Optometry’s Academy’s Meeting, and was given an award for “Clinical Excellence.” She was also given an award for her “Completion of an Internship in Ocular Pathology” from Eye Centers of South Florida. In addition, Dr. Thompson received top class scores on both Parts 1 and 3 of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry exam. Her main specialty is Primary Care Optometry with a focus on pathology and pediatrics. Dr. Thompson is a member of the Kansas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association and has been in practice since August 2014.

Dr. Thompson was born and raised in the area and has always loved Kansas. She says, “I grew up in Shawnee, Kansas and attended Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. Both my uncle and great-uncle are optometrists, so optometry runs in my family. Also, when I was three years old, I went to visit my Uncle Joe who was fresh out of optometry school at the time. For fun, he did a quick exam on me, and to his surprise, he found that I had a very high prescription and desperately needed glasses. I have worn glasses or contacts ever since. Because of this, optometry has always been dear to my heart and I always knew I wanted to be an eye doctor. It was amazing to achieve this life’s dream and be able to help others as I was helped at such a young age. Also because of this, I am a big advocate for young eye exams. I recommend every child be screened at least once by the age of three. If it wasn’t for my uncle catching my weak eyes at such an early age, I would have never had the vision I do today.”

Dr. Thompson adds, “Optometry is one of my biggest passions, and as an eye doctor I will do whatever it takes to best correct my patients’ vision and manage their ocular health.”

Outside of work she enjoys going on walks with her son Gunner and dog Camo. She also enjoys dancing, fishing, and boating and loves to spend her weekends in the summer at The Lake of the Ozarks.
